The first convention of the Global Bhutanese Organisation (GBO), a non-profit institution of the Bhutanese Diaspora was held in Harrisburg, PA (USA) announcing its first humanitarian support for children in Bhutanese refugee camps in eastern Nepal.
It was announced at the convention held on Saturday that GBO will fund the education of 200 children in Beldangi and 60 in Sanischaree camps. There are eight teachers, one administrative support and three caretakers in Beldangi School while Sanischare School has three teaching staff and two caretakers. The education support programme is implemented by respective camp management committees. The projected budget for the next four years is approximately $205,000.
Attended by some 200 individuals, the event also saw cultural performances by Monaj Dhakal, Arjun Rasailey and other local artists.
The GBO is active in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the UK, and the US and is registered in the US.
The organisation aims to provide humanitarian support to victims of natural disasters, pandemics, and political affliction.
