The Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Bhutan celebrated its 54th Independence Day and the National Day at the Bangladesh Embassy in Thimphu today. The celebration began with the hoisting of the Bangladeshi national flag.
On behalf of Bhutan, Zimponwom Kinzang Dorji, and other Bhutanese officials attended the celebration. The Zimponwom then paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, widely known as the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh.
In March 1971, he led the Bangladeshi Liberation War for independence from Pakistan. It lasted nine months, successfully restoring the Bengali sovereignty after over two centuries of struggle.
