Gawailing Happy Home: A Sanctuary of Dreams and Support

As the winter break draws to a close, a flurry of activity envelops Gawailing Happy Home, a beacon of hope and support for 27 children—26 girls and one boy. Amidst the chaos of packing and preparing for school, there is an air of camaraderie and familial bonds that transcend mere shelter.

Established by Respect, Educate, Nurture, and Empower Women (RENEW), Gawailing Happy Home is not just a place of refuge; it’s a sanctuary where dreams take root and flourish. Here, children find more than just safety; they find a community that nurtures their aspirations and empowers them to strive for greatness.

For the children of Gawailing, each day is an opportunity to support one another and chase their dreams. The only boy among them, a 13-year-old with aspirations of becoming a prime minister, is affectionately regarded as the heart of their family. Together, they form a tight-knit community where older siblings guide and uplift younger ones, fostering an environment of inclusivity and support.

Many of these children arrived at Gawailing at tender ages, seeking solace and stability. Over time, they have forged deep bonds of friendship and camaraderie, ensuring that newcomers feel welcomed and embraced from the moment they arrive.

One 17-year-old girl recounts her journey of transformation since joining Gawailing in 2020. Initially plagued by fears and uncertainties, she found solace in the support of her peers and the resources available to her. Now, she dreams of becoming a renowned psychologist, using her voice to inspire and uplift others.

Another 17-year-old girl dreams of becoming a doctor, fueled by the joy she experienced witnessing medical professionals in action. Despite facing obstacles, she remains steadfast in her determination to pursue her dreams and make a difference in the world.

For an 18-year-old who had to temporarily leave school, returning to Gawailing represents a second chance at education and a brighter future. Grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow, she dreams of contributing to her nation’s prosperity and well-being.

Among them is a 14-year-old girl, a top student in her class with aspirations of becoming a teacher. Her love for English literature, particularly the works of Roald Dahl, fuels her ambition to inspire future generations through education.

As the children bid farewell to Gawailing Happy Home, leaving behind heartfelt thank-you letters for their caretakers, the impact of this nurturing environment is palpable. For Sonam Dolma, the center’s manager, receiving these tokens of gratitude is a testament to the transformative power of love and support.

In the midst of life’s challenges and uncertainties, Gawailing Happy Home stands as a beacon of hope—a place where dreams are nurtured, and futures are shaped with love, compassion, and unwavering support.
