In a significant development for Bhutan’s administrative and judicial landscape, His Majesty The King has made key appointments to the judiciary and local administration. The formal announcement was made yesterday at Tashichhodzong.
The newly appointed Paro Dzongdag, Norbu Wangchuk, comes with extensive experience in civil service. Previously, Wangchuk was the Director of the Department of Workforce Planning and Skills Development at the Ministry of Education and Skills Development. Since beginning his career in 2000, he has held various positions across multiple ministries, including the Ministry of Finance, GNH Commission, Ministry of Labour and Human Resources, and his most recent role in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development.
Additionally, four new Drangpons have been appointed to various Dzongkhag courts. Tshoejab Mepham Denlen, who has been serving as the Legal Counsel at the Office of The Gyalpoi Zimpon (OGZ) since 2021, has been named Drangpon at the OGZ. Denlen also serves as the Legal Adviser for the Bhutan Red Cross Society since 2024.
Gyelpo, another new Drangpon, has been a stalwart of the judiciary since 2011. He has been serving as the Dzongkhag Court Judge in Pemagatshel since November 2021.
Richa Gurung and Tenzin Dorji, who have both been with the judiciary since 2013, have also been appointed as Drangpons. Gurung has been serving as Acting Drangpon in Bench 2 of Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag Court, while Dorji has been fulfilling the role of Acting Drangpon in the Lhuentse Dzongkhag Court.
These appointments reflect His Majesty’s continued commitment to strengthening Bhutan’s administrative and judicial systems, ensuring that experienced and dedicated individuals lead these vital institutions.
