In a significant move ahead of the official launch, His Majesty the King visited Pemathang Gyalsung Academy to oversee preparations for Bhutan’s pioneering Gyalsung programme, set to commence on September 5.
Pemathang Gyalsung Academy, located in Samdrupjongkhar, is one of four such institutions being established nationwide. The other academies are situated in Khotokha (Wangdue), Gyalpoizhing (Mongar), and Jamtsholing (Samtse). These academies are central to Bhutan’s ambitious Gyalsung programme, which aims to shape the future of the nation through its youth.
During the visit, His Majesty met with the inaugural cohort of Gyalsups, who have begun their training under temporary accommodations while the academy’s permanent facilities are still under construction. The completion of these facilities is anticipated by next year.
Emphasizing the importance of the Gyalsups’ well-being, His Majesty stressed the need for their physical and mental health to be prioritized. He highlighted the necessity of creating a supportive and comfortable environment for the young participants throughout their training.
Launched during the National Day celebrations in 2019, the Gyalsung programme is a landmark initiative designed to empower Bhutanese youth. It aims to cultivate a generation of capable and successful citizens, thereby securing a promising future for the country.
In addition to his visit to Pemathang, His Majesty also spent time in Dewathang, where he met with Desuups undergoing the 65th Batch Desuung training programme. His Majesty’s trip to Samdrupjongkhar followed his engagements in Gelephu, where he had granted audiences to government officials and Desuups participating in the 65th Batch training at Pelrithang.
His Majesty’s visits reflect a deep commitment to the nation’s youth and ongoing development programmes, reinforcing the importance of both the Gyalsung and Desuung initiatives in shaping Bhutan’s future.
