A Bhutanese American based on Harrisburg C M Niroula was awarded ‘President’s Volunteer Service Award 2021’ on 17 December for this volunteering contribution to the community.
The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation started recognising volunteers through this award in 2003 for their role in America’s strength and national identity. It says the award honours individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too.
Nirola has been associated with several media out within the exiled-Bhutanese community and continued his participation in media organisations following resettlement in the US. Currently, he is the US-based reporter for Bhutan News Network.
He is associated with the Global Campaign for The Release of Political Prisoners in Bhutan (GCRPPB) and The Bhutan Watch.
