Changangkha School Empowers Students with Disabilities Through First Pre-Vocational Skills Showcase

In a groundbreaking initiative to promote inclusion and self-reliance, Changangkha Middle Secondary School hosted its first-ever Pre-Vocational Skills Showcase for students with disabilities. The event, held on campus, highlighted the diverse talents of students in tailoring, cooking, and art — skills aimed at preparing them for independent livelihoods.

According to organizer Phurpa Dorji, the showcase was more than a display of craftsmanship; it was a message of empowerment. “We wanted to challenge public perceptions about what children with disabilities can achieve,” Dorji said. “This event is about building confidence and showing that ability comes in many forms.”

Parents who attended expressed a mix of pride and hope. Many shared that they once believed their children had limited prospects. “Seeing them cook, stitch, and create art so confidently has completely changed how we see their future,” one parent said.

The event drew participation from six other inclusive schools, as well as parents and community members, fostering a shared sense of encouragement and collaboration. Teachers emphasized that such exposure not only motivates students but also helps integrate them into broader social and economic life.

Changangkha Middle Secondary School currently supports over 160 students with disabilities and plans to make the showcase an annual tradition. The school hopes the event will serve as a model for inclusive education nationwide — celebrating every child’s potential to learn, work, and thrive.
