The curtains have fallen on the 4th India-Bhutan Youth Summit, a vibrant gathering that brought together young minds from both sides of the border to deepen the enduring friendship between the two nations. Held from October 22 to 30, the summit revolved around the theme “Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) and the Neighbourhood,” inviting participants to reflect on a shared future shaped by cooperation, cultural understanding, and sustainable development.
University students from India and Bhutan engaged in a series of enriching activities during the week-long program. From trekking through scenic landscapes to interactive sessions on environmental stewardship, education innovation, and the rise of digital platforms, the summit provided a space for dialogue and discovery.
The youth delegates expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn from one another. Zenab Sabunwala from India and Kezang Choden Namgyel from Bhutan were among those who shared their glowing reflections. Their stories highlighted not just the hospitality and warmth experienced but also the deep cultural affinity shared by both nations. “This summit helped us understand the value of regional unity,” said Choden Namgyel, underscoring the program’s broader goal of nurturing leadership rooted in shared values.
Launched in 2018, the India-Bhutan Youth Summit has evolved into a cornerstone initiative for bilateral engagement, driven by a vision to empower young leaders. Organizers of the summit noted that this year’s focus on the Gelephu Mindfulness City—a Bhutanese plan for a sustainable, wellness-focused urban space—served as a springboard for creative conversations on how the two countries can jointly tackle challenges and seize opportunities in the region.
As the latest edition concludes, the summit leaves behind a renewed spirit of collaboration and a reminder of the powerful role youth play in shaping South Asia’s collective future.
