Gedu College of Business Studies is set to embark on a landmark initiative this Friday as it hosts its Professional Internship Drive 2025 in Thimphu. The event marks a significant shift in the college’s approach to experiential learning, paving the way for deeper collaboration between academia and industry.
A total of 355 third-year undergraduates from six specialized business programs will participate in the drive, which comes as part of the college’s newly introduced industry-led curriculum. This revised learning framework features six innovative courses designed to strengthen students’ professional competencies and align their skills with market demands.
For many students, like Leki Gyeltshen and Deki Lhaden, the internship drive represents more than just an academic requirement—it’s an opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to real-world work environments. “It’s exciting to see how what we’ve learned in classrooms translates to the workplace,” shared Gyeltshen, echoing a sentiment common among his peers.
The upcoming six-month internship is notably more extensive than the college’s previous short-term placements. The extended duration is expected to give students the time and space they need to forge meaningful professional connections and demonstrate their capabilities beyond surface-level tasks.
The participating organizations span both public and private sectors, with key entities such as the Royal Civil Service Commission and Yarkay Group Private Limited joining the drive. According to Nima Seldon, the college’s media representative, the event reflects a growing emphasis on making graduates “job-ready” through immersive learning experiences.
“Our goal is to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practice,” said Seldon. “The drive is not just about placements, but about building long-term networks and exposing our students to the realities of the professions they aspire to join.”
With enthusiasm running high among students and employers alike, the Professional Internship Drive 2025 promises to strengthen the employability of Bhutan’s future business leaders while setting a new precedent for higher education in the country.
