Sir/Madam,
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to highlight the growing demand for mental health and psychosocial support among parents and caregivers. Families today face increasing pressure due to financial stress, work responsibilities, social isolation, changing family structures, and the demands of raising children in a rapidly changing world.
When parents and caregivers experience anxiety, depression, burnout, or emotional distress, their ability to provide stable, responsive, and nurturing care may be affected. Children often absorb the stress present at home, which can influence their emotional wellbeing, behaviour, learning, relationships, and overall development. Supporting children, therefore, also requires supporting the adults responsible for their care.
There is an urgent need to strengthen family support services through affordable counselling, parenting programmes, community support groups, helplines, and school-linked mental health initiatives. Healthcare workers, teachers, and local organisations should also be trained to identify families in distress and guide them towards appropriate assistance.
Mental health support must be made accessible, affordable, and free from stigma. Governments and communities should treat family wellbeing as a public priority. By investing in parents and caregivers, we create healthier homes and give children a stronger foundation for a secure and successful future.
Yours sincerely,
A Concerned Citizen
