His Majesty The King, Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen, and Their Royal Highnesses Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck and Gyalsem Sonam Yangden Wangchuck undertook a Royal visit to Gelephu on 25 July 2026, underscoring the monarchy’s continued personal commitment to the development of the Gelephu Mindfulness City.
During the visit, Their Majesties and Their Royal Highnesses first travelled to Sarpang Dzong, where they offered prayers. At the Dzong, the Laytshog Lopen, who is overseeing preparations of the sacred zung to be placed inside the planned 108 Jangchub Chortens, presented the sacred items to the Royal Family. The 108 Chortens form a unique national project: on 1 November 2026, some 40,000 volunteers will construct all 108 stupas in a single day within the Gelephu Mindfulness City. The initiative is intended both as a collective act of merit and as a blessing for the new city, symbolising the unity and capability of the Bhutanese people.
While in Gelephu, Their Majesties met project teams working across various sites of the Gelephu Mindfulness City, as well as local business owners and residents. The interactions allowed the Royal Family to receive updates on progress, listen to concerns on the ground, and reaffirm the central place of community welfare in the ambitious development.
Gelephu Mindfulness City remains one of Bhutan’s most significant contemporary undertakings, blending spiritual values, environmental sustainability and modern infrastructure. The presence of the entire Royal Family at this stage of the project carries both practical and symbolic weight, signalling that the city’s future rests not only on plans and investment but on shared national purpose.
The visit reflects the consistent pattern of Royal engagement with Gelephu, reinforcing the message that the Mindfulness City is a collective endeavour for present and future generations.
