Bhutan Launches Nationwide Youth Mental Health Report at Fourth PEMA Symposium

In a move to bring young people’s voices to the forefront of discussions on mental well-being, the PEMA Secretariat, the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD), and UNICEF Bhutan have jointly unveiled the OnMyMind Campaign Report at the fourth PEMA Symposium in Thimphu.

The report draws on insights gathered through a nationwide campaign aimed at understanding young people’s perspectives on mental health and highlighting the importance of emotional and psychological well-being during adolescence.

The initiative reflects growing efforts to ensure that young people are not merely recipients of mental health programmes but active participants in shaping conversations and approaches that affect their lives.

By placing adolescent experiences and perspectives at the centre of the discussion, the campaign seeks to strengthen awareness of mental health challenges and encourage a more inclusive dialogue around the support young people need.

The report’s launch at the PEMA Symposium also underscores the importance of collaboration between government institutions and international development partners in advancing adolescent mental health in Bhutan.

As conversations around youth mental health gain increasing attention, the findings offer an opportunity for educators, policymakers, families and communities to better understand the concerns of younger generations and consider how mental health support can become more responsive to their needs.

The OnMyMind Campaign Report marks another step towards recognising adolescent mental well-being as an important component of young people’s overall development and future opportunities.
