Bhutan and Cambodia Forge Diplomatic Ties

Bhutan and Cambodia have taken a significant step towards strengthening their international engagement by formally establishing diplomatic relations, paving the way for closer cooperation and greater exchanges between the two kingdoms.

The agreement was formalised through the signing of a joint communiqué in New York on Wednesday. Bhutan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Tenzin Rondel Wangchuk, signed the document alongside Cambodia’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Keo Chhea.

The establishment of diplomatic ties marks a new chapter in relations between the two countries, creating a formal platform for bilateral dialogue and collaboration on matters of shared interest.

During the signing ceremony, the two ambassadors welcomed the development and underscored the importance of fostering mutual understanding and goodwill between their countries. They also expressed optimism that the new relationship would encourage sustained engagement and open avenues for cooperation in the years ahead.

The move forms part of Bhutan’s expanding diplomatic outreach as the Himalayan kingdom continues to strengthen its international partnerships and engagement with the global community.

With Cambodia joining its network of diplomatic partners, Bhutan now maintains formal diplomatic relations with 63 countries and the European Union.
