Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen is in Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) to oversee preparations for a landmark spiritual event that will see 108 Jangchub Chortens erected simultaneously on November 1.
The ambitious undertaking, envisioned by His Majesty The King and announced in February this year, will bring together thousands of devotees for an unprecedented day of collective prayer and spiritual dedication.
Each of the 108 chortens will stand 15 metres tall, forming a continuous line along the Mau Chhu. Positioned approximately 100 metres apart, the sacred structures will stretch across the landscape like an enduring chain of prayers, symbolising peace, compassion and harmony.
The November 1 event is expected to witness one of the largest public gatherings associated with a spiritual undertaking in Bhutan. More than 100,000 people have already registered to participate, with registrations continuing ahead of the occasion.
Their Majesties, Members of the Royal Family, senior government officials, religious leaders, sponsors and international guests will join people from across the country in offering prayers as the chortens are raised in a single day.
Dedicated to the peace and wellbeing of all sentient beings, the initiative is expected to mark a significant chapter in Buddhist history. Beyond its architectural scale, the project carries profound spiritual significance, bringing together people in a shared expression of faith and devotion.
During her visit to Gelephu Mindfulness City, Her Majesty also graced the salhang, or groundbreaking ceremony, for Hatisar School.
The private educational institution will offer the Bhutan Baccalaureate curriculum, catering to children from Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) through Grade VI.
The two developments mark important milestones for Gelephu Mindfulness City, reflecting its emerging role as a centre for spiritual, educational and community development.
