Prime Minister of Bhutan visited the Jamtsholing Gyalsung Academy in Samtse, where he met young Gyalsups currently undergoing the three-month Gyalsung training programme and encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity to prepare themselves for their future roles as responsible citizens.
During his interaction with the trainees, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of approaching the programme with curiosity and an open mind. Drawing upon his own experience of undertaking a three-week De-suung training programme, he said that the experience had shown him that learning is not limited by age. Even at 56, he noted, the training had enabled him to acquire new knowledge and skills.
He urged the Gyalsups to view their time at the academy as more than a period of physical or institutional training. The three months, he said, offered them an opportunity to develop qualities such as discipline, perseverance and a strong sense of values that would continue to guide them well beyond the programme.
The Prime Minister also encouraged the trainees to absorb as much knowledge, practical experience and skills as possible during their stay at the academy, emphasising that the foundations developed during this period could prove valuable in both their personal lives and their contribution to the country.
Reflecting on the larger significance of Gyalsung, the Prime Minister reminded the trainees that the programme represents a precious Royal Soelra from His Majesty The King to Bhutan’s youth. Such an opportunity, he said, carries with it both privilege and responsibility.
He told the young Gyalsups that the most meaningful expression of gratitude would lie not merely in completing the training, but in applying what they learn to their lives and communities.
The Prime Minister called upon them to emerge from the programme as productive, responsible and dedicated citizens, equipped with the discipline and values necessary to contribute meaningfully to Bhutan’s future.
