In a moving display of friendship and respect, Their Majesties the Druk Gyalpo and Gyaltsuen yesterday personally welcomed Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand at Paro International Airport, marking the start of a momentous four-day State Visit.
The warm reception reflected the deep and enduring ties between Bhutan and Thailand. His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana arrived at the invitation of His Majesty The King, making this the Thai Monarch’s first State Visit abroad since ascending the throne.
Along the journey from Paro, the royal guests were greeted with heartfelt enthusiasm. Schoolchildren lined the roads, waving the national flags of both countries and offering vibrant flowers. Cultural performances punctuated the route, showcasing the rich heritage and shared goodwill between the two nations.
Upon arrival at Tashichhodzong, Their Majesties were honoured with a Guard of Honour presented by the armed forces. An official audience was held between Their Majesties of Bhutan and Thailand, further strengthening the bonds of camaraderie and cooperation.
The celebrations continued at Tendrelthang, where His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and members of the Royal Family joined in a grand welcome ceremony. DeSuups and Gyalsuups presented an additional Guard of Honour, while artists from both Bhutan and Thailand captivated the audience with traditional dances.
The historic occasion drew a large gathering of dignitaries, students, and Thai nationals residing in Bhutan, who came together to witness the landmark event.
As part of the State Visit, 74 monks from Thailand have also arrived in Bhutan and will join 74 Bhutanese monks in a special prayer ceremony at Kuenselphodrang tomorrow. Adding to the spiritual significance of the visit, sacred relics — including a relic gifted personally by His Majesty the King of Thailand — will be displayed for public reverence.
This landmark visit marks a new chapter in the enduring friendship between Bhutan and Thailand, celebrating a bond built on mutual respect, cultural affinity, and shared aspirations for the future.
