The Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) has strengthened its emergency response capabilities with the addition of four new firefighting vehicles handed over by the Indian Embassy on June 11.
The vehicles were provided under the Government of India’s support package for Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan, which includes a commitment of Nu 900 million aimed at supporting key development priorities in the country.
According to officials, the new firefighting units will be stationed in Punakha, Samtse, Gedu, and Yadi in Monggar, expanding fire emergency coverage across several regions. The deployment is expected to improve response times and enhance the effectiveness of firefighting operations, particularly in areas where access to emergency services can be challenging.
The addition of the vehicles marks a significant step in strengthening Bhutan’s disaster preparedness and public safety infrastructure. Authorities said the enhanced fleet will enable emergency responders to tackle fire incidents more efficiently, helping to protect lives, property, and communities.
The handover also reflects the continued cooperation between Bhutan and India in supporting initiatives that contribute to the country’s development and public service capabilities.
