As preparations intensify for the construction of the 108 Jangchub Chortens at the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), more than half of the sacred structures have already found sponsors, reflecting strong support from Bhutanese communities and institutions around the world.
The ambitious initiative, envisioned by His Majesty The King, is scheduled to commence on November 1 and has drawn contributions from religious organizations, private businesses, and Bhutanese living abroad. The project is being seen not only as a spiritual undertaking but also as a symbol of unity and collective devotion among Bhutanese communities globally.
According to officials associated with the initiative, over 50 of the planned 108 stupas have already been sponsored through various contribution categories. These include premium and full sponsorship packages valued at USD 200,000, shared sponsorship opportunities requiring a minimum contribution of USD 20,000, as well as smaller community-based offerings designed to encourage wider participation.
One of the most notable contributions has come from the Bhutanese diaspora in Australia. Members of the community, coordinated through the Association of Bhutanese in Perth Incorporated (ABPI), have collectively raised AUD 151,762 in support of the project. Organizers say the fundraising effort demonstrates the deep spiritual connection many overseas Bhutanese continue to maintain with their homeland.
The Central Monastic Body (CMB) has been entrusted with overseeing the installation of sacred relics within the chortens and guiding public awareness on the religious significance of the undertaking. Religious leaders have described the project as an important spiritual milestone intended to promote peace, compassion, and mindfulness.
Authorities have also made multiple donation channels available to supporters worldwide. Contributions can be deposited through authorized bank accounts or made digitally through an online crowdfunding platform administered by RSEBL, enabling broader international participation.
The Gelephu Mindfulness City project continues to attract growing attention both within Bhutan and among Bhutanese communities abroad, with supporters viewing the construction of the 108 chortens as a lasting spiritual legacy for future generations.
