His Majesty The King granted an Audience to graduates of the Royal Institute of Management (RIM) following the institute’s 28th Convocation, offering reflections on Bhutan’s future and the responsibilities of a new generation of professionals.
In His Majesty’s address to the graduates, the evolving trajectory of the country and the opportunities emerging from Bhutan’s development ambitions featured prominently. His Majesty spoke about the significance of Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) within this larger national vision and the role it could play in shaping Bhutan’s economic future.
A key theme of the address was the importance of developing a “trust economy”, with trust serving as an important foundation for Bhutan’s engagement with an increasingly interconnected and technology-driven world.
His Majesty also drew attention to rapid technological advancements, particularly artificial intelligence, and the need for Bhutan to harness emerging technologies effectively in pursuit of its national goals. As technology continues to reshape economies and institutions worldwide, the address underscored the opportunities for Bhutan to use these developments to strengthen its own aspirations.
At the same time, His Majesty highlighted an advantage that cannot be derived from technology alone — Bhutan’s distinctive heritage and identity. The values, culture and characteristics shaped by the country’s history give Bhutanese people a unique competitive strength as they navigate a rapidly changing global environment.
The Audience came as 258 students graduated from RIM this year, comprising 154 men and 104 women.
The largest group consisted of 177 graduates who completed the Master of Business Administration programme. Another 23 received Graduate Diplomas in Accounting, while 30 graduated with Diplomas in Information Technology and 28 with Diplomas in Financial Management.
The 28th Convocation marks another cohort entering Bhutan’s professional landscape at a time when the country is pursuing major economic and technological transformations, including the development of Gelephu Mindfulness City.
His Majesty’s message placed the graduates within that broader national journey — one in which technological capability and economic ambition are accompanied by the trust, values and identity that remain distinctly Bhutanese.
