In a significant engagement underscoring regional cooperation and infrastructure development, His Majesty The King granted an audience to Lieutenant General Harpal Singh, Director General of India’s Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
During the meeting, Lt Gen Singh briefed the monarch on the ongoing work and strategic importance of the BRO, a key agency functioning under India’s Ministry of Defence. The organisation is responsible for the construction and maintenance of critical road networks in remote and sensitive border regions, playing a vital role in enhancing connectivity, security, and economic development.
Particular attention was given to the BRO’s activities beyond India’s borders, especially in Bhutan, where it operates under Project Dantak. This long-standing initiative has been instrumental in building and maintaining roads and infrastructure that support Bhutan’s development while strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
The audience highlighted the importance of robust infrastructure in fostering regional stability and cooperation. It also reflected the continued collaboration between India and its neighbours in advancing connectivity in challenging terrains.
Officials noted that the BRO’s work not only improves accessibility in remote areas but also contributes to socio-economic progress by linking communities and enabling trade and mobility.
The meeting concluded with an acknowledgment of the enduring partnership and shared commitment to development and security in the region.
