His Majesty The King undertook a two-day visit to Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) on August 7 and 8, reviewing the progress of major infrastructure and development projects taking shape across the city.
His Majesty was accompanied during the visit by the Prime Minister, the Chief Operations Officer of the Royal Bhutan Army, the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, the Commandant of IMTRAT, the Chief Engineer of Project Dantak, and officials from the Indian Embassy, IMTRAT and Dantak.
The visit covered several projects that are among the earliest physical assets being developed as part of GMC.
On August 7, His Majesty visited Choego GMC, the first completed renovation project in the city. Conceived as an architectural reference building for GMC, Choego also serves as an operational base for GMC offices as well as its local and international partners.
His Majesty then proceeded to Barshong, where He visited the site of the Royal Bhutan Country Club, before travelling to Tareythang. World-class infrastructure developed by Gyalsung Infra in Tareythang is now among the earliest assets incorporated into Gelephu Mindfulness City.
The day’s review also included a visit to the site of the Gelephu International Airport, one of the major infrastructure projects planned for the new city.
His Majesty also reviewed the site where 108 Chortens are scheduled to be built on November 1 this year. The project will mark another significant addition to the emerging landscape of GMC.
Continuing the review on August 8, His Majesty visited Sarpang Dzong, where preparations are underway for the zung, the sacred contents that will be placed inside the 108 Chortens.
His Majesty subsequently visited the site of the upcoming Royal Jigmeling Golf Club, concluding the two-day review of projects across the GMC area.
The visits provided an overview of the range of works currently progressing in and around Gelephu, from major transport and recreational infrastructure to architectural and spiritual landmarks, as Gelephu Mindfulness City continues to take physical shape.
