A total of 39 households across Mongar Gewog are picking up the pieces after a recent earthquake left a trail of structural damage in the region, local officials confirmed.
The seismic tremors impacted four chiwogs: Phosorong, Koenbar Tagchu, Kidekhar, and Wengkhar Yakpugang.
Among the affected areas, Wengkhar Yakpugang chiwog was particularly hard hit, recording six separate incidents of damage. According to Gewog Gup Tenzin Wangchuk, the most severe impact occurred in Dredang village, where a traditional two-storied Bhutanese home suffered major structural failure.
Emergency Response Underway
In the immediate aftermath of the quake, local authorities and disaster management teams swung into action to secure the area and support displaced residents.
“Disaster management officials have already provided tarpaulin sheets to the affected households,” said Gup Tenzin Wangchuk.
He added that emergency personnel are actively on the ground, assisting families with the grueling task of evacuating their belongings from compromised and unsafe structures.

As assessment teams continue to survey the full extent of the architectural toll, community leaders assure that relief and support measures remain fully ongoing. No casualties have been reported at this time, and the immediate focus remains on ensuring safe shelter and logistical aid for the affected families.
