Takti Bridge Opens New Pathways for Communities in Chhukha

Residents of Logchina Gewog and surrounding communities are welcoming a new era of connectivity following the inauguration of the Takti Bridge, a key infrastructure project expected to transform transportation and economic activities in the region.

For years, the Takti stream posed a major challenge to commuters and farmers. Although relatively calm for much of the year, the stream swells rapidly during the monsoon, often disrupting travel and isolating villages from nearby markets and services.

The newly completed Bailey bridge, built at a cost of Nu 24 million, now provides a reliable crossing point and is expected to benefit residents across several gewogs, including Logchina, Dungna, Maedtekha, Geling, and Phuentshogling.

Local communities, whose livelihoods largely depend on agriculture and livestock farming, say the bridge will ease one of their biggest challenges—transporting farm produce during the rainy season. In the past, farmers frequently faced delays in getting their goods to market, resulting in financial losses and reduced income.

Residents expressed relief and optimism following the bridge’s completion. Many recalled the difficulties they faced during periods of heavy rainfall, when rising water levels made travel risky and often impossible.

According to villagers, the absence of a permanent crossing not only disrupted the movement of goods but also created hardships during emergencies. The situation was particularly difficult for people travelling between gewogs, with some commuters reportedly forced to spend nights in their vehicles when roads became inaccessible.

Officials say the bridge will significantly improve access to markets, schools, health facilities, and government services while supporting the movement of agricultural products and livestock throughout the year.

Logchina Gup Tham Bdr Rai described the bridge as a critical piece of infrastructure for the region, noting that it serves as an important link for multiple gewogs. He said improved accessibility would contribute to both social and economic development in the area.

With the monsoon season approaching, residents are hopeful that the new bridge will eliminate longstanding transportation bottlenecks and provide a dependable route for travel and trade, strengthening livelihoods and enhancing opportunities for communities across the region.
