Thousands Rally for Fourth Phase of Works in Gelephu Mindfulness City

More than 8,000 volunteers have mobilised for the fourth phase of environmental and infrastructure works in Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), marking one of the largest coordinated volunteer efforts since the project began.

This phase introduces a new operational shift, with Pelsung personnel taking charge of managing volunteer teams and catering services for the first time. The move is seen as a practical step toward preparing the group for a long-term role in the development of Gelephu.

Chief Planning Officer of the Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority, Gonpo Tenzin, said the involvement of Pelsuup is part of a broader capacity-building effort. “They are being trained not just for this phase of work, but for their future responsibilities in Gelephu as the city develops,” he said.

Volunteers are spread across seven major worksites, focusing on trail restoration, bush clearance, and general site improvements. Among the most demanding assignments is the clearing of an 11-kilometre stretch of the Mindfulness Trail, a key feature of the city’s landscape and recreational planning. Large-scale bush clearance is also underway along the highway corridor to improve safety, visibility, and environmental management.

Despite the scale of operations, coordination has remained smooth, with teams working in structured shifts under close supervision. Participants have described the experience as physically demanding but rewarding, highlighting a strong sense of collective purpose.

The fourth phase of the GMC volunteer service is scheduled to conclude on Friday, bringing weeks of intensive work to a close. Officials say the outcomes from this phase will lay important groundwork for future construction and environmental initiatives within the city.
