Young Minds Take the Lead at Gelephu Student Pitch Competition

A lively burst of creativity and problem-solving filled the room recently as students in Gelephu took part in a “Shark Tank”-style pitch competition under the KidsMBA entrepreneurship program. The event showcased how young people can turn everyday challenges into business ideas with social impact.

Stealing the spotlight was Vegetable To-Go, a farm-to-home delivery concept focused on providing safe, organic produce directly to households. The idea responds to multiple needs at once: easing access to fresh vegetables for elderly residents and busy families, while also creating a more reliable market for local farmers. Judges praised the proposal for blending practicality with social responsibility.

The KidsMBA program, developed by the Youth Development Fund (YDF), targets students between the ages of 11 and 15, introducing them to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship at an early stage. Through hands-on learning, mentorship, and real-world pitching experiences, participants are encouraged to think creatively, work collaboratively, and develop confidence in presenting their ideas.

Beyond business skills, the program places strong emphasis on values. Student projects are guided by the principles of Gross National Happiness, particularly sustainable socio-economic development and environmental conservation. Many of the ideas presented reflected this approach, aiming not just for profit, but for positive community impact.

Organizers noted that Gelephu, with its emerging identity as a mindfulness-centered city, provides an ideal setting for nurturing young innovators. The environment encourages thoughtful leadership and long-term thinking—qualities seen as essential for the next generation of entrepreneurs.

While Vegetable To-Go took top honors, the competition featured a wide range of imaginative proposals, including eco-friendly bags, products inspired by traditional cultural designs, locally branded tea, and home-baked goods. Together, the ideas painted a picture of a generation eager to innovate while staying rooted in social and environmental responsibility.

As the program continues to grow, initiatives like KidsMBA are being seen as important steps toward building an enlightened entrepreneurial society—one where young people are equipped not only to create businesses, but to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s future.
