Dear Editor,
I was deeply concerned to read about the disappearance of more than 500 glaciers in the Bhutanese Himalaya. The rapid increase in glacier shrinkage since 1976 clearly shows how serious global warming has become.
Losing nearly one-third of glacier area is not just an environmental issue but a threat to water security and the safety of communities living downstream. Faster retreat of lake-terminating glaciers also raises the danger of sudden floods.
Authorities and citizens must work together to support climate action, improve monitoring, and promote sustainable practices before these fragile mountain ecosystems face irreversible damage.
Sincerely,
Rigzin
