Friendship in Action: Bhutan Hosts Advantage Assam Roadshow

In a significant display of regional collaboration, the ‘Advantage Assam 2.0’ roadshow series was officially launched in Thimphu, marking a pivotal moment in the enduring friendship between Bhutan and Assam. The event was spearheaded by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, His Excellency Himanta Biswa Sarma, alongside key representatives from the Government of Assam and the Government of India.

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay extended his heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Sarma and the respective governments for choosing Thimphu as the inaugural venue for this ambitious roadshow. The launch holds special significance as Bhutan prepares to celebrate its National Day tomorrow, underscoring the deep-rooted ties between the two regions.

“In my remarks at the launch, I highlighted the special bond between Bhutan and Assam,” stated PM Tobgay. He emphasized a Bhutanese adage, “Close neighbors are more important than distant relatives,” to illustrate the profound relationship between the neighboring regions. This sentiment was echoed throughout his speech, reflecting on how Bhutan has continually benefited from its close ties with Assam.

The Prime Minister also took a moment to express collective gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to His Majesty The King during his visit to Assam last year. “Our shared experiences and mutual respect have laid a strong foundation for ongoing cooperation and prosperity,” PM Tobgay remarked.

A notable highlight of the event was the recent inauguration of the Darranga Integrated Checkpost. PM Tobgay lauded this development as a testament to the strengthening infrastructure and enhanced connectivity between Bhutan and Assam. “The Darranga Integrated Checkpost has already begun to further solidify our strong relations and deepen people-to-people connections,” he noted, thanking the Government of Assam for making this significant milestone possible.

Advantage Assam 2.0 is poised to serve not only as a catalyst for Assam’s growth but also as a tremendous opportunity for Bhutan. “As Assam grows, so do Bhutan and the region,” PM Tobgay stated, highlighting the symbiotic relationship that promises shared prosperity. He pointed to the Gelephu Mindfulness City as a prime example of potential collaboration, emphasizing its immense prospects for fostering economic and cultural exchanges.

Looking ahead, Prime Minister Tobgay expressed his enthusiasm for continued cooperation and partnership. “I look forward to working together to strengthen our special friendship and partnership,” he affirmed, envisioning a future where both Bhutan and Assam thrive through mutual support and strategic initiatives.

The launch of the ‘Advantage Assam 2.0’ roadshow in Thimphu not only celebrates the longstanding friendship between Bhutan and Assam but also sets the stage for future collaborations that promise to enhance regional stability and economic growth. As Bhutan gears up for its National Day celebrations, the event stands as a testament to the enduring and evolving relationship between these close neighbors.
