In a significant address at the inaugural Leaders’ Session of the third Voice of Global South Summit 2024, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay praised India’s approach to global development and solidarity.
The summit, chaired by Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, showcased India’s commitment to fostering partnerships with developing countries rather than imposing a hierarchical dynamic. This human-centric approach aligns closely with Bhutan’s own principles of Gross National Happiness, which emphasize the well-being and inclusive growth of all citizens.
Prime Minister Tobgay expressed optimism about the potential for a more inclusive and peaceful future under India’s leadership. He highlighted how India’s growth strategy, which is rooted in solidarity and mutual respect, can serve as a model for the Global South.
“We are witnessing a transformative moment in international relations,” said Tobgay. “India’s approach, which sees developing nations as partners in progress rather than mere followers, deeply resonates with Bhutan’s values of happiness and inclusivity. It is our hope that, under this vision, we can collectively build a more equitable and prosperous world.”
The Voice of Global South Summit continues to emphasize the importance of collaboration and shared growth among developing nations, reinforcing the idea that progress should be a shared journey rather than a one-sided endeavor.
