In a time-honored tradition, a delegation of monks from Dorden Tashithang Buddhist University set forth on their annual pilgrimage to Bodh Gaya earlier this week, marking a significant spiritual journey that underscores their commitment to Buddhist teachings and practices.
Bodh Gaya, located in the Indian state of Bihar, holds profound significance as the place where Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, becoming the Buddha. For the monks of Dorden Tashithang, the pilgrimage is not only a physical journey but also a deep spiritual quest aimed at renewal, reflection, and reaffirmation of their vows.
“We embark on this pilgrimage to connect more deeply with the roots of our faith and to seek inspiration from the very place where enlightenment was achieved,” said one monk during the send-off ceremony. “It is a time for us to engage in intensive meditation, study, and reflection, strengthening our resolve to uphold the teachings of the Buddha.”
