Three community infrastructure projects supported by the Government of India have been inaugurated in Panbang, Zhemgang, strengthening road connectivity and improving access for local communities.
Implemented under the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) framework, the initiatives focus on upgrading key rural roads that serve residents, farmers and local markets in the area.
The projects include the blacktopping of the Gewog Centre–Lichibi Farm Road at a cost of Nu 20 million. Another Nu 5.7 million has been invested in the construction and provision of a granular sub-base for the Lamthang Chiwog Road, while the Budhashi Chiwog Road has been improved at a cost of Nu 5 million.
The upgraded roads are expected to make travel more convenient and reliable for communities in Panbang, while also improving the movement of agricultural produce to markets. Better road access is particularly significant for rural households dependent on farming and other local economic activities, as it can help reduce transportation difficulties and strengthen links with nearby commercial centres and essential services.
Beyond improving mobility, the projects are expected to contribute to local livelihoods and enhance the overall quality of life by providing communities with more dependable infrastructure.
The inauguration also reflects the continuing development cooperation between Bhutan and India. Through HICDPs, India has supported a range of community-level initiatives in Bhutan aimed at addressing local infrastructure needs and encouraging grassroots economic development.
The latest projects in Panbang add to this partnership, with the focus on creating practical infrastructure that directly benefits communities and supports their long-term socio-economic development.
