In a powerful display of spiritual solidarity, His Majesty the King graced the opening of the Global Peace Prayer Festival (GPPF) in Thimphu, uniting Bhutanese citizens and international visitors in a shared call for world peace. Alongside His Majesty, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and members of the Royal Family were also in attendance, underscoring the profound national importance of the event.
The festival commenced under the guidance of His Holiness the Je Khenpo, with simultaneous prayer sessions held at Kuenselphodrang. Thousands of Buddhist practitioners, joined by dignitaries and leaders from across the globe, gathered to invoke blessings of harmony, compassion, and global unity.
A sea of saffron robes, fluttering prayer flags, and serene chants filled the capital as participants from various Buddhist traditions—some traveling from as far as Nepal—came together to express their deep reverence and gratitude. For many attendees, the presence of Bhutan’s revered monarchs added an extraordinary spiritual significance to the occasion.
“The prayers offered here transcend borders,” said one devotee from Kathmandu, marveling at the sense of collective hope felt throughout the nation. “To be here with His Majesty is a blessing.”
The GPPF, more than just a spiritual gathering, also features vibrant cultural programs that showcase Bhutan’s rich heritage. Traditional songs, masked dances, and musical performances are bringing color and joy to the otherwise solemn meditative environment.
This year’s festival also marks the beginning of a series of auspicious national events. A Public Blessing Day is scheduled for November 10, allowing people across the Kingdom to seek communal blessings. This will be followed by the celebration of the 70th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo on November 11—an occasion anticipated with profound affection and pride by all Bhutanese.
As prayers for peace resonate through the valleys of Thimphu, the Global Peace Prayer Festival serves as a powerful reminder of Bhutan’s enduring commitment to harmony—both within and beyond its borders. Guided by the spiritual and moral leadership of His Majesty, the people stand united in their aspiration for a more compassionate world.
