Gedu College Aims for Full Internship Placement by Year-End

Gedu College of Business Studies has embarked on an ambitious mission to secure internships for all its third-year undergraduates by December, with the goal of achieving 100% placement. Already, 40% of the college’s 355 students have landed internship positions, and efforts are now concentrated on placing the remaining 60%.

The drive is part of a mandatory 60-credit internship program integrated into the curriculum. According to college president Dalston Pung, the internship spans at least five months and requires weekly progress reports from students. Those who fail to complete the internship—which is key to moving forward academically—will not pass the semester.

The program draws inspiration from internship models in leading education systems worldwide, including Switzerland, Finland, Singapore, and Hong Kong. This global approach has been bolstered by partnerships with prominent figures in the Bhutanese industry, such as Tshering Nedup, CEO of Education Pro, and Jigme Dorji, CEO of the Institute of Skills and Management Studies, who are actively supporting the initiative.

In an effort to ensure internships are accessible and beneficial, the college has introduced stipends and is encouraging participating companies to offer in-kind support to students. Notably, Gedu College has secured six international internship placements with a Malaysian firm, providing monthly stipends of around USD 237.8.

With December as the deadline, the college remains focused on matching every student with an industry opportunity, positioning the internship program as a vital bridge between academic learning and real-world experience.
