His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen of Bhutan graced the vibrant Naadam celebrations in Ulaanbaatar as esteemed Guests of Honour, accompanied by Their Royal Highnesses Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel and Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck. The royal visit, part of a State Visit at the invitation of President U. Khurelsukh, highlighted the deepening cultural ties between Bhutan and Mongolia.
Naadam, Mongolia’s premier festival, unfolded in grandeur at the National Stadium, showcasing the essence of Mongolian heritage through traditional sports like wrestling, horse-racing, and archery. Rooted in centuries of tradition, Naadam not only celebrates Mongolia’s nomadic legacy but also fosters national unity and pride across the country.
Their Majesties were welcomed by the President and First Lady of Mongolia to witness the spectacular opening ceremony, a display of colorful pageantry and cultural pride. Subsequently, they actively participated in several traditional games, immersing themselves in the spirited atmosphere of Naadam.
A highlight of the royal visit was Their Majesties’ visit to the Khoi Doloon Khudag race field, where they witnessed one of Naadam’s renowned horse races, renowned for its skill and tradition. The day continued with a traditional Ger-hosted Naadam lunch, providing an authentic taste of Mongolian hospitality.
In a nod to Mongolia’s rich history, Their Majesties explored the Chinggis Khaan Museum, delving into exhibits chronicling Mongolia’s storied past under the leadership of its legendary emperor. They also paid homage to Mongolia’s cultural heritage at the Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex, a monumental tribute to the nation’s founding figure.
Continuing their cultural journey, Their Majesties visited the Bogd Khan Palace Museum, named after the revered 8th Jebtsundamba Khutuktu, offering insights into Mongolia’s theocratic history and cultural evolution.
The State Visit underscores Bhutan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Mongolia, rooted in mutual respect for cultural heritage and shared values.
