Dear Editor Sir
The recent capacity-building trainings conducted by the Journalists’ Association of Bhutan for civil society and community-based organizations on digital advocacy deserve wide appreciation. At a time when online spaces strongly influence public opinion and policy discussions, empowering CSOs and CBOs with the right strategies, ethical guidelines, and digital skills is crucial.
The focus on advocacy logic, storytelling, responsible content creation, and the safe use of emerging tools such as artificial intelligence reflects a forward-looking approach. Equally important is the emphasis on privacy, responsible posting, and protecting vulnerable groups from potential online harm. Digital platforms can amplify voices, but they can also expose communities to risks if used without care.
Encouragingly, organizations like the Bhutan Taxi Association and the Disabled Peoples’ Organisation of Bhutan are already planning to apply these lessons to improve awareness, inclusivity, and impact measurement. The central message—that digital tools are only effective when guided by clear goals and strong values—is a reminder for all of us. Such initiatives strengthen not only civil society, but Bhutan’s broader democratic and participatory culture.
Sincerely, Dechen Choki
