Bhutanese Archers Show Grit in Asia Cup 2025 Qualification Rounds

The national archery team made a strong impression at the Asia Cup 2025 Leg 2 qualification rounds held in Singapore today, as two of its archers secured places among the top 20 in their respective events. The tournament, featuring 204 archers from 20 countries, is being contested across ten categories and will run until Friday.

A total of nine Bhutanese archers are representing the nation at the event, competing in both recurve and compound divisions.

In the compound men’s individual category, Tandin Dorji emerged as the top performer from Bhutan, claiming 13th place among 50 competitors. His teammates Kezang Norbu, Khendrup, and Tshewang Dorji placed 35th, 37th, and 46th respectively.

Bhutan’s only female participant in the compound category, Dorji Dolma, ranked 37th out of 44 in the women’s individual event. She later teamed up with Tandin Dorji in the mixed team event, where the pair secured 11th position out of 13 teams. Meanwhile, the men’s compound team, comprising Tandin Dorji, Kezang Norbu, and Khendrup, finished 9th among 13 national teams.

In the recurve men’s individual competition, Sonam Penjor stood out by finishing 18th in a field of 54 archers. Fellow recurve teammates Kinley Tshering, Lam Dorji, and Karma Lhendup placed 27th, 37th, and 43rd respectively.

The recurve men’s team, consisting of Penjor, Tshering, and Lam Dorji, also secured 9th place out of 14 teams, contending against archers from 17 countries.

With the qualification rounds now concluded, the Bhutanese athletes will face the next challenge in the elimination matches beginning tomorrow. As they prepare to take on some of the region’s top archers, the team remains determined to continue its spirited performance on the international stage.
